As Above, So Below by Chris Kalman, $24.99

As Above, So Below: A Climbing Story by Chris Kalman,

As Above, So Below is a 103 page fictional climbing story set in Argentine Patagonia. When something goes wrong high up a mountain, one man is forced to face his inner demons along the way to the summit.

This beautiful hardbound book was published in 2018 as a limited edition of 1000 copies. The story was illustrated by the immensely talented Craig Muderlak, and edited and revised at the The Banff Centre’s prestigious Mountain and Wilderness Writing Workshop.

As Above, So Below has been described as “Jack London’s To Build a Fire for climbing”, and reminiscent of James Salter’s Solo Faces. In September of 2018, it was nominated for the Mountain Fiction Award at the Banff Mountain Book and Film Festival in Banff, Canada.

Author Bio Chris Kalman is an internationally known climber, and author. His work has been featured in Alpinist, Ascent, Climbing, Gripped, and Rock and Ice Magazines, and in the American Alpine Journal where he is an Associate Editor. He has done first ascents in Patagonia, British Columbia’s Coast Mountains, and throughout the United States. His recent novella (As Above, So Below) and guidebook (The Index Town Walls) were both shortlisted for awards at the 2018 Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival.
