Thanks to the partnership of the Carolina Climbers Coalition, Chimney Rock State Park, and Conserving Carolina, Eagle Rock Crags are now open to climbing as of May 2018 (free parking permit required due to limited parking- contact Chimney Rock State Park (828-625-1823)- do not attempt to access without the parking permit).
The Carolina Climbers Coalition and Conserving Carolina worked with Chimney Rock to build The Tunnel Trail, leading to the base the climbs on the Lower Tier of Eagle Rock. The Tunnel Trail is a spur trail branching off of the 9 mile Weed Patch Mountain Trail. The Tunnel Trail was also partially funded by an REI Stewardship Grant and the American Alpine Club’s Cornerstone Conservation Grant.
Ground Up Publishing created a map to help you find the climbing areas at Eagle Rock proper once you get to the area click here.
We are currently documenting climbs and boulder problems; let us know what you find (email mikereardon(at)hotmail.com) or post up here: click here.
Carolina Climbers Coalition needs your help to recoup the cash spent on the trail. Donate by clicking here or become a member. Also, stay tuned for volunteer work days, and chip in to replace bolts if you have the means (email mikereardon (at)hotmail.com)
The Weed Patch Mountain Trail, constructed by Conserving Carolina and opened in May 2018, begins at Buffalo Creek Park. In 2015, the Carolina Climbers Coalition worked with the Town of Lake Lure to acquire bouldering access there. Click here for more information on Buffalo Creek Park. If you follow the 9 mile Weed Patch Mountain Trail, starting from Buffalo Creek, you will find several bouldering opportunities along the way.
